Energy and Forestry Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy reiterated on Sunday that the government of Jagan Mohan Reddy is committed to focusing on the welfare of farmers and working to resolve agrarian issues.

The minister was speaking after the launch of the distribution of drip and sprinkler irrigation equipment worth ₹92.14 crore to farmers for the financial year 2022-23 in Punganur.

Member of Parliament for Chittoor N. Reddappa, Pokala Ashok Kumar, TTD Trust Board Member, Joint Collector S. Venkateshwar and officials from Department of Agriculture attended the event.

Addressing the farmers, the minister said that the state government was implementing many social protection programs for them and that as part of the revival of the micro-irrigation sector, drip equipment drop and spray were provided to them in a progressive manner.

Micro-irrigation has proven useful in providing enough water to crops for high yields, he said, adding that farmers should use such devices extensively.

He urged officials from agriculture and allied departments to sensitize farmers on micro-irrigation, as well as acreage-limiting factors and subsidies. Equipment would be provided to farmers through the Rythu Bharosa Kendras seamlessly by linking biometric and Aadhaar details.

Mr Reddy said no less than 24 micro irrigation companies have received awards to cover the distribution of equipment to registered farmers in the Chittoor district.
