Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, said the federal government led by the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains committed to the welfare of the common man.

Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, in a statement Friday in Abuja, said the Vice President said this while receiving a delegation from the APC Professionals Forum at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He said that the APC is a party of the people and would continually ensure that the common man gets the maximum benefit from the government.

“It’s a party of the common man; a party of the people, a party rooted in the importance of ensuring that the common man derives maximum benefit from government.

“That’s why we have great programs like the Social Investment Programs, the largest of its kind on the continent and several other such programs that underline how seriously we take the plight of the common man.

“While formed some nine years ago, the Vice President noted that the party has made an impact and is committed to improving the welfare of Nigerians; the party is also where many young people are.

According to him, the APC is the ruling party in Africa’s largest democracy, which in itself is a phenomenal achievement for such a young party.

Osinbajo said the APC is committed to ensuring the growth and development of the country as the party carries within it the hopes and expectations of millions of Nigerians.

“The party is not just a platform to run for political elections; it carries with it the hopes and expectations of millions of Nigerians and we need to make it a place where they feel comfortable, a place where they feel we belong; we can even put our resources into it.

“It’s not just for politicians; it’s for all of us.

“Our people, the Nigerian people, need hope; they must be able to believe in politicians.

“They have to be able to believe in their leaders and if the leaders are within the political party, that political party has to have an ideology that appeals to them, that makes them feel wanted, that makes them feel supported and I think that role is so crucial.

“This is the role that this Professional Forum must assume; and what it implies outside of this logical purpose of the forum; what it involves is actually defining in writing in various ways what our party stands for.

He recognized the importance of the forum in the scheme of things and urged the forum to play a greater role in shaping party ideology.

The Vice President said that professionals are key to ensuring that the party remains focused on the welfare of Nigerians and its ideals as stated in the Constitution and the Manifesto respectively.

“If the professionals can’t do that, then our party becomes all comers, anything goes as long as we have a platform to run in political elections; but I think we, especially professionals, have a unique advantage.

“We have many who have run their businesses, who have professional organizations or who have excelled in their own professions and we know that the only way to do it right is if you can keep going tirelessly.”

The vice president said he hoped the forum would also carry the hopes and expectations of millions of party supporters nationwide.

He also felt that the forum, made up of professional elites, would be of great benefit to the party and Nigeria because of its leadership and the quality of the professionals on its board and as members.

In his remarks, a former Bauchi state governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, who is the chairman of the forum’s board, said party professionals felt the need to identify with the vice president being him. -even a professional.

He invited Osinbajo to the next forum event in Abuja.

The delegation also included Board Vice Chairman and former APC National Secretary Waziri Bulama, Barr’s Board Secretary. Dapo Akinosun and National Coordinator, Akeem Akintayo.
