The Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit of the Delhi Police (IFSO) has filed a complaint against unidentified persons for making lewd remarks against women belonging to the Muslim community during a conversation at the Clubhouse, announced Officers Tuesday.

The app’s chat room hosted about 20 participants who were reportedly overheard discussing “why Muslim girls are more beautiful than Hindu girls”.

The police took suo-moto knowledge of the case. The FIR was filed under IPC Sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of caste, religion, etc.), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage the religious feelings of any class in insulting his religion or religious beliefs) and 354A (sexual harassment).

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) had earlier sent a notice to DCP (IFSO) KPS Malhotra to take action in this regard.

Obscene remarks

“In the conversation, participants can be clearly heard making obscene, vulgar and defamatory remarks about women and girls, especially from the Muslim community,” DCW leader Swati Maliwal said in the notice.

She asked the police for a report on the action taken and the details of the accused, if he was arrested.
