Tom and Joyce Michaels of Brentwood are Knights of Columbus Council 6168 Family of the Month for October.

“This quietly engaged couple is a model of what keeps community organizations like the Knights of Columbus alive,” said Grand Knight Mike Belkin. “It’s all about reliability and a willingness to serve, and they are exemplary. “

Joyce is a Knights of Columbus bingo caller and Tom is a bingo ground worker.

At Our Lady of Grace Church in Beverly Hills, both are extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist. Joyce is also an altar servant and Tom worked in the religious store.

As a member of the Catholic Women’s Parish Community, Joyce previously co-chaired the organization’s annual “Tricky Tray” auction. Tom regularly helps the charismatic community of the parish to feed the homeless in the area at the Family Resource Center in Hernando.

The Michaels came to Citrus County from Ohio in 2006, where Tom worked first in public accounting and then for 25 years at Forest City Enterprises LP in Cleveland as vice president of taxes. Knight since 2012, Tom is a CPA and graduated in 1968 from Kent State University.

Joyce was a craftswoman and had her own ceramic workshop. She then worked 15 years as a site supervisor for Cuyahoga Community College.

In retirement, she continued to paint watercolors and then printed note cards and calendars. The proceeds of his business are donated to non-profit organizations as charity.

The couple met blindly on a snowy evening in February 1967 in Cleveland and celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary last spring.

The Michaels have three grown children and now at home they enjoy the company of a new puppy, Cappy.
