HAVANA TIMES – I don’t really want to upset anyone with this article, but the daily briefings from Dr Francisco Duran, National Director of Epidemiology at the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, at 9 a.m. in front of Cuban TV cameras : is a show. As a result, I think it should be called: The Duran Show.

The show is a show that grabs your attention and arouses inclination and interest due to its factor of entertainment and sensationalism. The Cuban government uses it as part of what we call in political science: mind control, which involves methods of modifying mental processes in individuals, as well as controlling and manipulating the mind. .

What advantages does Duran’s show have for the Cuban government? Well, that occupies the population with these pandemic statistics, so that they don’t think about the national economic situation today. Like many other efforts in the past, this is a strategy to distract the Cuban people from the most important things.

There are 24 hours in a day and we use 8 for sleep, 8 for work, etc. The government puts in two hours of Mesa Redonda, 1 hour of Duran Show, 1 hour and 30 minutes of information, etc. There is no doubt that it occupies the minds of the people.

Why are you kidding us? For example, anyone who has seen the Stanley Kubrick movie titled: Full Metal Jacket, and the scene where the lieutenant appears instructing military journalists during a break in the Vietnam War, will realize that the news are manufactured. We are not exempt in Cuba.

The statistics presented by Dr. Duran could be real. Only God will know. Additionally, how many countries are devoting 1 hour of national television air time and resources to talking about the evolution of the pandemic? This is happening in nationalist and totalitarian countries like Cuba where the government controls the media and must compensate for their failure to create a welfare state by resorting to other means to win over the population and stay in power.

Due to the quiet repression that exists, very few people know that everything we see in Cuba first passes through the filter of the Ideological Department of the Communist Party. Nothing is broadcast or published without first having been analyzed by this Department and having obtained the green light.

People who remember the court hearings for the return of little Elian Gonzalez, unfortunately know that the government made a spectacle of it. Just as the Ubre Blanca cow event in 1982 turned into a spectacle, and the battle for the liberation of Cuban 5. They took great political advantage of these events. Today, the pandemic is the show of the hour.
